Center of Excellence

Dr M.G.R Educational and Research Institute, Deemed to be University is known to bring innovations in right time keeping in mind the current trends in technologies and societal needs in the different facilities like Engg & Technology, Medical, Law., etc.. In line with thus idea, the university proposes to establish various centres of excellence in cutting edge technologies.
The basic objectives in these centres of excellence are three fold

In Faculty of Engineering and Technology the four major departments namely CSE, IT, ECE and Mechanical with inter disciplinary focus to establish the following Centres of Excellence with seed grant funding from the University.

CSE: Centre of Excellence in Computational Intelligence and Medical Technology
(This centre focuses on design development of Medical tools / frameworks for Translational Medicine in collaboration with our Medical colleges domain experts

IT: Centre of Excellence in Cyber Physical System
(The centre aims to harness the power of CPS technologies to address the complex challenges of society by focusing on health care & transport)

ECE: Centre of Excellence in Smart Agriculture
(The centre aims to use Sensor, IOT and Drone technologies to bright out smart agriculture)

MECH: Centre of Excellence in Green and Bio Materials Manufacturing.
(To set up on advanced composite Lab with additive manufacturing facility to strengthen research in green materials and biocompatible materials.)

NEWGENIEDC

Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute is a proud recipient of an Institutional grant NewGenIEDC from Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India to develop the spirit of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the University campus. This is a 5 year grant (2017-2022) which is managed by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Center of Excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Institute.Till date MGR DST NewGenIEDC has funded 25 student prototypes, has published 5 patents and 7 start-ups have evolved from the center. The Student Start-up center has a dedicated instrumentation facility and co-working space for student entrepreneurs.

About DST NewGenIEDC Grant

New Generation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (NewGen IEDC) is a programme launched by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and implemented by EDII, Ahmedabad.

NewGen IEDC aims to inculcate the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship amongst the young S&T students, encourage and support start-up creation through guidance, mentorship & support. NewGen IEDCs established in our academic institutions to encourage students to take up innovative projects with possibility of commercialization. Dr MGR DST NewGen IEDC would also spread the message of entrepreneurship and create a culture of entrepreneurship. With faculty already trained in entrepreneurship, the presence of Dr MGR DST NewGen IEDC would create a vibrant entrepreneurial culture amongst the students. Few amongst the “Job-Seekers” would be converted to “Job Generators” through the entrepreneurial route.
